Mapleton-Minto 81’s fall to Thundercats at Durham

DURHAM – The Mapleton-Minto 81’s surrendered a goal with one second to go in the first period and never led after that as they were outlasted 7-5 by the Durham Thundercats in Western Ontario Athletic Association play Friday night at the Durham and District Community Centre.

Durham led 2-1 at the end of the first period thanks to that goal and the Thundercats were up 4-2 after the second.

Adam Kawalec and Tommy Hoogaars had two goals apiece for M-M while Riley O’Connell fired home the other one.

Kyler Nixon and Jake Brown scored twice each for Durham while single goals were netted by Randy Cox, Quinton Bruce and Justin Graham.

The result leaves M-M (7-4-2-1) in fourth place, a single point ahead of Durham (7-4-1-1).

The 81’s are to host the second-place Ripley Wolves (12-2-0-0) Saturday at the Palmerston arena. Game time is 7 p.m.
