Mapleton-Minto edged by Petrolia Squires

PALMERSTON – A goal early in the second period proved to be the winner as the Mapleton-Minto 81’s suffered a 3-2 loss to the Petrolia Squires in Western Ontario Athletic Association senior men’s hockey league play Saturday night at the Palmerston arena.

The teams had scored twice apiece in the first period.

Ryan Maksymyk and Jake Pleon each scored for the 81’s.

Brad Burton had two goals for Petrolia, including the winner, while Jeff Chambers scored the other goal.

The loss was the third in a row for the 81’s who are sixth in the 14-team league at 9-7-2-1 while Petrolia is fifth at 10-7-2-0.

The 81’s have three games to go in their regular season starting with a game against the Lucknow Lancers (2-15-0-0) at the Lucknow Sports Complex Friday at 7:30 p.m.
