Mapleton-Minto knocked out of playoffs

PORT ELGIN – The Mapleton-Minto 81’s saw their Western Ontario Athletic Association senior men’s hockey league season come to an end Friday night when they were edged 6-5 by the Saugeen Shores Winterhawks at the Saugeen Shores Sports Complex.

The result gave Saugeen Shores a 4-1 win in the best-of-seven AA quarter-final playoff series.

Three goals in a span of two minutes and 26 seconds in the final 10 minutes of the third period lifted the Winterhawks to the win.

M-M led 2-1 after the first period and 4-3 after the second and made it close with a goal with 35 seconds to play.

Brody Lemay, Collin Hartwick, Wade Pfeffer, Brendon Aitken and Jake Pleon had a goal apiece for the 81’s.

Scoring for Saugeen Shores were James McHaig, Andy Fracz, Blake Underwood, Trent Hawke, Miles MacLean and Michael Johnstone.

Saugeen Shores advances to play the Clinton Radars in the semifinals.
