Mielzynski eighth in Courcheval slalom

COURCHEVAL, France – Bishop Macdonell graduate Erin Mielzynski placed eighth in Saturday’s Audi FIS World Cup women’s slalom at Courcheval.

Mielzynski finished with a two-run total time of 1:38.78 and was just less than two seconds behind the winner, Mikaela Shiffrin of the U.S. who won in 1:36.72.

Petra Vlhova of Slovakia was second at 1:37.01 and Frida Hansdotter of Sweden was third in 1:37.09.

Mielzynski had been seventh after the first run, but had the 16th-fastest time of the slower second run when two of the top 10 had faster runs than their first runs.

Mielzynski is 11th in the overall slalom standings with 92 points. Shiffrin leads with 400 following four wins in four races while Vlhova is second at 320 with four second-place finishes.

Next race on the World Cup slalom circuit is set for Saturday at Semmering, Austria.
