Milverton hits in overtime to end season for Rocks
MILVERTON – The Elora Rocks saw their season come to an end Saturday night at the Perth East Recreation Centre when they suffered a 4-3 loss in overtime to the Milverton Four Wheel Drives.
The victory gave Milverton a 4-2 win in the best-of-seven Western Ontario Athletic Association senior men’s AA hockey semifinal series.
The Drives jumped ahead early with the lone goal of the first period before the Rocks tied it with the only goal of the second. The teams traded goals in the third with Elora going ahead twice and Milverton tying it both times. Chris Eckert’s goal with 9:25 to go in the third for the Drives completed the regulation-time scoring.
Mitchell Boertien hit for the winning goal on a power play at 4:15 of overtime.
Steve Dol, Mark Rozak and Brendan Farrugia scored the goals for the Rocks while assists went to Cole Rooney, Rozak, Ed Gaffney, Ryan Maksymyk, Farrugia and Klayton Hoelscher.
Andrew Brubacher and Evan Buehler scored the other goals for Milverton. Chris Corbett had three assists while Brubacher, Chad Bauman, Dennis Dewar and Eckert each had one.
Colin Dunne was in net for the Rocks while Tim Bester was in goal for Milverton.
