Minor midget AAA Junior Gryphs drop Burlington

BURLINGTON – The Guelph Junior Gryphons moved a step closer to securing a berth in the South Central AAA minor midget OHL Cup qualifier semifinals with a 4-1 win over the Burlington Eagles Monday night at the Appleby Ice Centre.

The win was the third in a row for the Junior Gryphs and it gives them sole possession of first place in their pool with a 4-1-0 record. The loss knocked Burlington out of the reckoning to advance out of the group.

The Junior Gryphs received goals from Mark McIntosh, Ethan Broderick, Jackson Phillips and Ethan Gore while Ty Anselmini had two assists and McIntosh, Phillips, Dylan Hudon and Ryan Cook had one apiece.

Alex Nap was in the Guelph net for the victory.

Owen Johnston scored for Burlington with an assist going to Alec Koschanow.

Luke Finelli took the loss in the Burlington net.

While the Junior Gryphs lead the pool, they’re followed by the Southern Tier Admirals at 3-2-0, Hamilton Junior Bulldogs at 3-3-0, Grey-Bruce Highlanders at 2-3-0 and Burlington at 2-5-0.

The Halton Hurricanes lead the other pool at 4-0-1 while the Oakville Rangers are at 3-2-0, Brampton 45s are at 2-3-1, Niagara North Stars are at 2-2-0 and the Buffalo Regals are at 0-4-0.

The Junior Gryphs are to host Grey-Bruce at the Victoria Road arena Thursday at 8:30 p.m., play Grey-Bruce at Owen Sound Saturday at 12:30 p.m. and play the Junior Bulldogs at Hamilton Sunday at 1:30 p.m. to wrap up their pool play.
