Minto 81’s doubled by Tavistock Royals

PALMERSTON – The Minto 81’s were outscored 2-1 in both the second and third periods as they were doubled 4-2 by the Tavistock Royals in WOAA senior AA men’s hockey play Sunday at the Palmerston arena.

The first period was scoreless.

Tavistock jumped ahead 23 seconds into the second period with the first of two shorthanded goals the Royals would get in the game.

They added another goal three and a half minutes later before Minto netted its first goal of the game, a power-play marker with 1:23 to go in the second.

The Royals added two more goals 1:36 apart early in the third, the second of that pair being the other shorthanded goal.

The 81’s wrapped up the scoring in the game with 7:14 to play.

Derrick Williams and Riley Cribbin scored for Minto while assists went to Tyler Harrison and Blair Buchart.

Sean Leslie, Alex Mourani, Lucas Bast and Jeremy Munro scored the goals for Tavistock. Trevor Sauder assisted on two of the goals while Bast, Munro, Deven Kropf and Mourani each had one assist.

Shots on goal were not reported.

Daniel Dekoening was in net for Tavistock while Jensen Van Boekel was in net for Minto.

The 81’s went 1-for-7 on their power play while Tavistock was scoreless on five power plays.

Minto is eighth in the 12-team league at 2-2-0-1 while Tavistock is fifth at 4-1-0-0.

The 81’s are to play the Saugeen Shores Winterhawks (3-2-0-0) at the Saugeen Shores Community Complex in Port Elgin Sunday at 4:30 p.m.
