Minto 81’s drop match on last-minute goal by Tavistock

PALMERSTON – Devon Kropf’s goal with 15 seconds to go in the third period lifted the Tavistock Royals to a 3-2 victory over the host Minto 81’s in WOAA senior AA quarter-final playoff action Sunday at the Palmerston arena.

The result squares the best-of-seven series at a win apiece.

The 81’s grabbed the early lead with a pair of goals in the first period while Tavistock came back with one goal in the second and two in the third.

Adam Kawalec and Caleb Warren scored for Minto while Tyler Harrison and Trent Verbeek each had an assist.

Mike Noyes and Trevor Sauder had the other goals for Tavistock. Sauder had two assists while Drew Gerth, Lucas Bast, Tristan Hohl and Matt Zilke had one apiece each.

Tavistock outshot Minto 19-16 and both teams had a power-play goal.

Daniel Dekoening had 16 saves for Minto while Jensen Van Boekel had 14 for Tavistock.

The game featured 88 minutes in penalties, 45 for Tavistock. The penalty total included two game misconducts and a 10-minute misconduct.

Third game in the series is set for Friday at 8:30 p.m. at the Palmerston arena while the fourth game is to go Saturday at the Tavistock and District Recreation Centre Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
