81’s get closer, but Ripley takes Game 2, too

PALMERSTON – The Minto 81’s fell behind 2-0 in their best-of-seven Western Ontario Athletic Association senior men’s hockey league’s AA semifinal with the Ripley Wolves when they were edged 4-3 Sunday at the Palmerston arena.

Ripley had taken the opening game of the series 6-0 at Ripley Saturday.

Sunday, the teams were tied 2-2 at the end of the first period before a scoreless second. The Wolves scored two in a row in the third to break the tie while the 81’s made it close when they completed the scoring in the game with 2:26 to go.

Zach Graham, Tommy Hoogaars and Shawn Lantz scored the goals for Minto while Graham, Francois Cote, Tyler Harrison and Jamison Buck each had an assist.

Ripley received goals from Dan Nicoloff, Garrett Meurs, J.D. Falconer and Pat Looby while Kevin Boyd had two assists. Getting one assist apiece were Nicoloff, Meurs, Looby and Adam Alexander.

Shots on goal were not reported.

Gatlin Burt picked up the win in the Ripley net while Ben Nelson was tagged with the loss in the Minto net.

Third game of the series is set for Friday at the Ripley arena. Game time is 7 p.m.
