Minto 81’s get on a roll first to stop Elora Rocks

PALMERSTON – The Minto 81’s scored the first four goals of the game on their way to a 4-2 victory over the Elora Rocks in Western Ontario Athletic Association senior men’s hockey league play Saturday night at the Palmerston arena.

Minto netted the lone goal of the first period and added three more in the second before Elora scored its two goals in the third.

The 81’s received single goals from Tyler Harrison, Jamison Buck, Adam Kawawlec and Wade Pfeffer while Zach Graham assisted on three of the goals. Getting one assist each were Dylan Hoffman, Mike Pleon, Shayne Ross, Kawawlec and Pfeffer.

Kris Dobinson and Klayton Hoelscher scored for Elora while Ed Gaffney, Brendan Farrugia and Chad Herron each had one assist.

Ben Nelson picked up the win in net for Minto while Colin Dunne was tagged with the loss in the Elora net.

Minto is tied for seventh in the league standings at 9-7-0-1 while Elora is 10th at 7-9-0-1.

Next game for the 81’s is Saturday when they’re to play the 14th-place Lucknow Lancers (1-12-0-2) at the Lucknow arena beginning at 7:30 p.m.

The Rocks have a pair of games next weekend as they’re to host the third-place Shelburne Muskies (14-3-0-0) Friday at the Elora and District Community Centre at 8:30 p.m. and play the fifth-place Tillsonburg Thunder (12-5-0-1) at the Tillsonburg Memorial Arena Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
