Minto 81’s hit to double Creemore Coyotes

PALMERSTON – The Minto 81’s connected for a pair of goals in the final 11 minutes of the game to double the Creemore Coyotes 4-2 in WOAA Senior AA hockey play Saturday night at the Palmerston arena.

The 81’s never trailed in the game. They led 2-0 at the end of the first period, but Creemore came back to tie the score with the lone goal of the second and another goal three and a half minutes into the third.

Caleb Warren opened and closed the scoring for the 81’s while Adam Kawalec scored the other two goals. Tyler Harrison, Kawalec, Shawn Lantz and Stephen Gibson each had one assist.

Jake Logan and Adam Logozzo had a goal apiece for Creemore. Assists went to Logozzo, Brent Hughes and Colin Kijowski.

Shots on goal were not recorded.

Jonathon Reinhardt picked up the win in net for Minto while Mason Kameka was in goal for the Creemore.

The 81’s were scoreless on three power plays while the Coyotes were scoreless on their lone power play.

The win was the second of the weekend for the 81’s as they had dropped the Shallow Lake Crushers 8-3 at the Shallow Lake and District arena Friday night.

Minto led that game 4-1 at the end of the first period and 7-2 after the second.

Trent Verbeek recorded a hat trick for the 81’s while Denver Hill and Kawalec scored twice each and Jack Burkett added the other goal. Gibson had three assists while Harrison, Burkett and Riley Cribbin had two apiece and Hill, Brendan Clayton and Lantz had one each.

Mitch Good, Dan Zweep and Jasper Akiwenzie scored for Shallow Lake while Reid Simmons had two assists and Brenden Welsh and Justin Marlowe had one each.

Reinhardt picked up the win in goal for the 81’s while Allan Menary was in net for Shallow Lake.

The 81’s were a perfect 3-for-3 on their power play while Shallow Lake was scoreless on three power plays. Minto also had two shorthanded goals while the Coyotes had one.

Seaforth Centenaires lead the 12-team league at 14-1-2 while the 81’s have climbed to second at 12-2-1. Following are the Ripley Wolves at 10-4-2, Creemore at 10-6-1, Saugeen Shores Winterhawks at 9-4-1, Tavistock Royals at 9-5-1, Petrolia Squires at 9-7-0, Durham Thundercats at 8-6-2, Milverton Four Wheel Drives and Shallow Lake both at 3-12-0, Shelburne Muskies at 2-10-2 and Lucknow Lancers at 2-12-0.

The 81’s are to make it a 3-in-3 weekend with a game against Saugeen Shores at Port Elgin Sunday at 6:30 p.m.
