Minto 81’s shoot ahead in second to edge Crushers

SHALLOW LAKE – A pair of goals in the second period gave the Minto 81’s a lead they wouldn’t relinquish as they slipped by the Shallow Lake Crushers 5-4 in Western Ontario Athletic Association senior men’s hockey league play Friday night at the Shallow Lake and District Arena.

Minto led 3-2 at the end of the first period and 5-3 after the second.

Tommy Hoogaars led the 81’s with a pair of goals while single goals were netted by Denver Hill, Tyler Harrison and Wade Pfeffer. Adam Kawawlec assisted on three of the goals while Kalob Witzell and Pfeffer each had two assists and Harrison, Jamison Buck and Kyle Ellis each had one.

Scoring a goal apiece for Shallow Lake were Reid Simmons, Mackenzie Fleming, Daniel Zweep and Skylar Robertson. Single assists were awarded to Nate Kramer, Tyler Cunningham, Justin McCrae, Fleming, Zweep, Jesse Bedard, Jasper Akewenzie and Drew Quinlan.

Marc Williams was in net for the 81’s while Allan Manary was between the pipes for the Crushers.

The 81’s are to play the Lucknow Lancers at Lucknow Tuesday night.
