Minto 81’s upend surprised Shelburne Muskies

PALMERSTON – The Minto 81’s made it two wins in as many nights as they surprised the Shelburne Muskies 6-2 in WOAA senior men’s hockey league play Saturday night at the Palmerston arena.

The 81’s scored eight seconds into the game and led 3-1 at the end of the first period and 5-1 after the second.

Tommy Hoogaars had a hat trick for Minto while Adam Kawawlec added a pair of goals and Collin Hartwick scored the other one. Francois Cote and Kyle Ellis each had two assists while single assists were awarded to Austin Gaboury, Chris Hardie, Zach Graham, Jordan Delaurier, Tyler Harrison and Wade Pfeffer.

Nick Hodgson and Ty McCallum had a goal apiece for Shelburne while Trevor Vanalstine, Luke Richardson, Jeff Brett and Kolton Maguire each had one assist.

Shots on net were not kept.

Ben Nelson picked up the win in net for the 81’s while Ryan Mantle took the loss for Shelburne. Mantle started, but was replaced by Edward Davey at 3:14 of the second after Minto’s fourth goal.

The 81’s are 12th in the 14-team league at 3-6-0-1 while Shelburne is tied for third at 9-2-0-0.

Minto is to host the 13th-place Lucknow Lancers (1-7-0-2) Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Palmerston arena.
