Minto 81’s win final home game of regular season

PALMERSTON – The Minto 81’s struck for five goals in the first period on their way to a 7-3 victory over the Shelburne Muskies in their final home game of the WOAA senior AA men’s hockey league’s regular season Sunday at the Palmerston arena.

The 81’s led 5-1 at the end of the first period and 7-2 after the second.

Neither team had a full bench for the game as the 81’s had 16 players suited up and Shelburne had 13.

Owen Torrie collected two goals and an assist for Minto while Trent Verbeek had a goal and two assists and Blair Buchart and Jack Burkett each had a goal and an assist. Klayton Hoelscher and Shawn Lantz added the other goals while Riley Cribbin had two assists and Chris Hardie, Cole Scott and Denver Hill each had one.

Moses Vaz netted a pair of goals for Shelburne while Brandon Richardson had the other one. Luke Richardson had two assists and Josh Sguigna and Nick Hodgson had one apiece.

Shots on net were not recorded.

Daniel DeKoening picked up the win in the Minto net while Malcolm Young was between the pipes for Shelburne.

The Muskies failed to score on the only power-play situation of the game.

The 81’s are second in the standings at 14-4-0-1.
