Minto prevails in shootout to top Centenaires

PALMERSTON – Owen Torrie’s goal in a shootout lifted the Minto 81’s to a 3-2 win over the Seaforth Centenaires in WOAA senior AA men’s hockey play Friday night at the Palmerston arena.

A total of 12 players took shots in the marathon shootout. Minto had three goals in the shootout and Seaforth had two while Minto netminder Marc Williams had four saves.

After a scoreless first period, Minto grabbed a 2-1 lead by the end of the second before Seaforth pulled even with the lone goal of the third.

Riley Cribbin and Cole Scott scored in regulation time for the 81’s while Jack Burkett and Brendan Clayton each had an assist.

Seaforth’s regulation-time goals were scored by Holdyn Lansink and Kurtis Bartliff while Mike Siddall assisted on both. Craig Dalrymple and Lansink each had an assist.

Shots on net were not recorded.

Seaforth went 1-for-4 on its power play while Minto was scoreless on four power plays.

Williams picked up the shootout win for the 81’s while Tyler Parr took the loss for the Centenaires.

Seaforth leads the league at 9-0-2-0 while Minto’s at 3-2-1-0 and has games in hand over every other team in the league.

The 81’s are to play the Milverton Four Wheel Drives (2-6-0-0) at the Perth East Recreation Complex Sunday at 2 p.m.
