Mitchell Hawks hit early to pull even with Patriots
MITCHELL – The Mitchell Hawks struck for three goals in a span of just over four and a half minutes late in the first period to start on their way to a 6-3 victory over the Mount Forest Patriots in Provincial Junior Hockey League playoff action Saturday night at the Mitchell arena.
The result tied the best-of-seven Pollock Division semifinal at a win apiece.
The teams scored once each in the second and twice each in the third.
Ryley Cribbin, Michael Stefanelli and Jack Birkett scored the goals for Mount Forest while Blair Butchart had two assists and Chet Philips, Birkett and Cribbin had one apiece.
Jake Finlayson, Jarett Bogdon and Ryan Murray each scored twice for Mitchell. Tanner Hertel and Braeden Burdett each had three assists while Brett Denny, Finlayson, Kyle Langlois and Carter Lewis collected one apiece.
The Patriots outshot Mitchell 34-24 including a 27-12 advantage after the first period. The Hawks were 3-for-6 on their power play while the Patriots were 1-for-9.
Third game of the series is set for Sunday at 7:30 p.m. at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex.
