Mohawks clobber Pacers again to finish off series

ELORA – The Elora Mohawks finished their annihilation of the Point Edward Pacers with a 17-3 victory in Ontario Junior B Lacrosse League Western Conference quarter-final playoff action Saturday night at the Elora Community Centre.

The win gave the Mohawks a three-game sweep of the opening-round series. They outscored Point Edward 55-6 in the series.

The Mohawks scored twice in the first two minutes of Saturday’s game and 10 times in all in the first period to establish their dominance. They led 10-1 at the end of the first period and 15-2 after the second.

Jayden Bushey connected for four goals for Elora while Sam Dramnitzke, Chris Rathwell, Nick Aitchison and Brett Harrison each had two goals. Adding single markers were Jacob Hayne, Mark McIntosh, Owen Moore, Kyle Detweiler and Matt Allen. Dramnitzke had six assists while McIntosh and Owen Williams each had two and Bushey, Jabe Verbeek, Rathwell, Aitchison, Harrison, Allen, Jack Webley and goalkeeper Cecil Jacobs each had one.

Scoring for Point Edward with a goal apiece were Quinn Beauregard, Evan Turner and Kaleb Edlington.

The Mohawks outshot the Pacers 74-25 in the game and 201-81 in the series.

Elora also went 2-for-4 on its power play Saturday while the Pacers didn’t have a man-advantage situation in the game.

Jacobs had 22 saves for the Mohawks while Jacob Ferreira had 57 for Point Edward.

The Mohawks advance to the conference semifinals where they’ll face either the Guelph Regals or the St. Catharines Athletics. The Guelph-St. Catharines series is the only one of the Western Conference quarter-finals that didn’t end in a sweep as the Windsor Clippers defeated the Owen Sound North Stars 3-0 and the Hamilton Bengals took the Six Nations Rebels 3-0.

The Regals and Athletics are tied 2-2 in their series with the deciding game set for Sunday night in St. Catharines.

The Mohawks will have home-court advantage in the conference semifinals.
