Mohawks doubled by Niagara, unbeaten streak ends

NIAGARA-ON-THE-LAKE – The Elora Mohawks saw their unbeaten streak come to an end at six games as they were doubled 8-4 by the Niagara Thunderhawks in Ontario junior B lacrosse league play Friday night at the Meridian Credit Union Arena.

Niagara led 2-1 at the end of the first period and 6-3 at the end of the second thanks to scoring three goals in a minute and 53 seconds.

Logan Cameron, Trent Spear, Zack Cameron and Ryan Mueller each had a goal for Elora while single assists were awarded to Spear, Justin Beaulieu, Hyatt Welsh, Nick Aitchison and Logan Cameron.

Nathan Maloney had a hat trick for Niagara while Michael Wilson and Chris Weier scored twice apiece and Matt Mines added the other goal. Kent Baker-Printup and Maloney each had three assists and Joseph LaForme, Brandon Sveda, Joseph Conti, Aidan Buis and Mines had one apiece.

Sam Hadley was charged with the loss in the Elora net. He made 34 saves while winning netminder Josiah LaForme had 32 saves.

The Mohawks were scoreless on five power plays and Niagara went 1-for-8.

Elora leads the Mid West Division at 5-2-1 while Niagara is second in the South West at 3-1-1.

The Mohawks are to host the Guelph Regals (2-4-1) Sunday at 7 p.m. at the Elora and District Community Centre.
