Mohawks drop St. Catharines to stretch their win streak

ELORA – The Elora Mohawks continued their win streak in Ontario Junior B Lacrosse League play Saturday night at the Elora and District Community Centre as they dumped the St. Catharines Athletics 12-2.

The win was the fifth in as many league games this season and came in their fourth consecutive home game.

Combined with wins in their final three games of the 2019 season – the 2020 and 2021 seasons were cancelled due to the pandemic – the Mohawks have an eight-game win streak in regular-season play.

Saturday, the Mohawks held St. Catharines scoreless until the third period while they tallied three times in the first and six times in the second.

Keegan Detweiler scored the first three goals of the game for Elora and he finished with a six-goal outing. Brett Harrison added a pair of goals while Sam Dramnitzke, Jabe Verbeek, Jonah White and Matt Allen added single goals. Dramnitzke had six assists while Harrison had five, Nick Aitchison three and Brinley Wilson and Allen two apiece.

Liam Dietsch and Levi Roest scored the goals for St. Catharines while Trent Mooridian picked up an assist.

The Mohawks outshot St. Catharines 63-25 and went 5-for-11 on their power play. St. Catharines went 0-for-2.

Sam Hadley had 25 saves for Elora while starter Connor Waller had 32 saves in 38 minutes and Oliver Vanyo had 19 in 22 minutes.

The Mohawks are to finish their five-game homestand Sunday with a 7 p.m. game against the Six Nations Rebels.
