Mohawks give up final seven goals in loss to Rebels

HAGERSVILLE – The Elora Mohawks surrendered the final seven goals of the game as they were downed 11-5 by the Six Nations Rebels in Ontario Junior B Lacrosse League play Friday night at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena.

While Six Nations scored the lone goal of the first period, the Mohawks came back in the second and led 4-3 with a minute and 15 seconds to go in the middle frame. However, the host Rebels grabbed a 5-4 lead before the period was over.

Elora pulled even a minute and a half into the third before Six Nations started its final seven-goal run 20 seconds later.

Brinley Wilson had a pair of goals for Elora while single markers were added by JJ Lavigne, Carter Coffey and Jabe Verbeek. Nate Renaud had three assists while single assists went to Owen Tovell, Lavigne, Verbeek and Wilson.

Winter Rivera led the Rebels with three goals and four assists while Connley Joe Squire and Hodo Martin tallied twice apiece. Single goals were added by Tayton Skye, Chaz Hill, Macay Jimerson and Damon Doxtatar while Ryan Hess, Damonie Thomas, Rahonwinetha Elijah and Doxtatar each had two assists. Picking up single assists were Squire, Martin, Cole Powless, Jimerson and Kaylem Whales Racette.

Shots on net were not recorded.

The Mohawks were scoreless on 13 power play and they yielded two shorthanded goals while Six Nations went 2-for-6 on their power play.

Goalkeepers were Xavier Demichele for the Mohawks and Immani Mitten for the Rebels.

The result leaves Six Nations atop the Western Conference with three wins in as many outings while the Mohawks are at 1-1-0.

The Mohawks are to host the Welland Generals (0-2-0) in their home opener Sunday at 4 p.m. at the Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex in Fergus.
