Mohawks rally to climb into tie for division lead
WINDSOR – The Elora Mohawks came back from a two-goal deficit by scoring six consecutive goals on their way to a 9-4 victory over the Windsor Clippers in Ontario junior B lacrosse league play Sunday at the Forest Glade arena.
Windsor scored the lone goal of the first period and increased its lead to 3-1 before the second period was four minutes old. However, the Mohawks started their comeback in the second and had shot ahead 6-3 by the end of the period.
Trent Spear hit for a pair of goals for Elora while singletons were netted by Jacob Black, Jayden Bushey, Brett Harrison, Hyatt Welsh, Ryan Mueller, Dean Sealey and Sam Dramnitzke. Welsh assisted on three of the goals while Mueller and Owen Ristov each had two assists and Logan Cameron, goaltender Ryan Fitzgerald, Cam Coughlin, Travis Weber, Spear and Dramnitzke had one each.
Scoring for Windsor were Josh Rosa, Malikye Good, Nathan Salaris and Blain Wallace. Darian Delisle, Max Payton and Wallace each had two assists and Conner McManus had one.
The Mohawks outshot the Clippers 58-38 and went 4-for-12 on their power play while Windsor was scoreless on five power plays.
Fitzgerald had 34 saves for Elora while Carson Hebner had 49 for Windsor.
The win left the Mohawks and Hamilton Bengals tied for first in the Mid West Division with identical 11-2-1 records.
The game was the first of three consecutive road games for the Mohawks as they’re to play the Bengals at Hamilton Thursday at 8 p.m. and the Point Edward Pacers at Point Edward Saturday at 7 p.m.
