Mohawks shine on power play in win over Six Nations

ELORA – The Elora Mohawks turned on their power play to rebound from a three-goal deficit to hand the Six Nations Rebels an 8-5 setback in Ontario Junior B Lacrosse League play Sunday night at the Elora and District Community Centre.

The Mohawks scored three unanswered power play goals in the third period for the win.

Six Nations ran into penalty trouble in the game as the Rebels were called for 44 minutes of infractions while Elora was assessed 29 minutes. The end result was that Elora went 6-for-15 on the power play while Six Nations went 2-for-6.

Jabe Verbeek had a hat trick for Elora while Brett Harrison and Matt Allen each scored twice and Jonah White had a single goal. Sam Dramnitzke assisted on four of the goals while Harrison had two assists and Brinley Wilson, Jacob Hayne, Mark McIntosh, Jordan Mueller and Allen each had one.

Rowisonkier Barnes had four goals for Six Nations while Eric Hodo Martin scored the other one. Hodo Martin also had two assists while Barnes, Ike Whitlow, Deeland Martin, Shako Swamp and Mitten Imani each had one.

The Mohawks outshot the Rebels 61-41.

Nathan Whittom had 36 saves in the Elora net to get the win while Cal Hill had 56 saves for Six Nations.

The win keeps the Mohawks unbeaten with six wins in as many games. Six Nations is at 3-3-0.

The Mohawks are to tangle with the Guelph Regals (4-1-0) at the Victoria Road arena Wednesday at 8 p.m.
