
Mohawks trounce Red Devils to finish first in conference
ELORA – No doubt about it, the Elora Mohawks wanted first place in the Ontario Junior B Lacrosse League’s Western Conference.
The Mohawks clinched top spot in the conference as they completed their regular season with a 17-1 trouncing of the Wallaceburg Red Devils Sunday at the Elora Community Centre.

The Mohawks kept Wallaceburg scoreless after the Red Devils tied the score at 3:06 of the first period with their lone goal of the game.
Elora led 2-1 at the end of the first period before their offence got on a roll, extending the lead to 8-1 by the end of the second.
Nick Aitchison led the Mohawks with four goals while Jayden Bushey, Sam Dramnitzke and Brett Harrison each had hat tricks. Owen Moore tallied twice while Jabe Verbeek and Kyle Detweiler also scored. Dramnitzke, Ethen Wellings, Moore and Harrison each had five assists while Matt Allen had three and Jabe Verbeek, Aitchison, Tobias Wilson and Trae Verbeek had one apiece.
Shawn Glover-Noah scored for Wallaceburg with help from Kaelen Smith and Kanton Verstraeten.
The Mohawks outshot Wallaceburg 79-28 and went 4-for-9 on their power play while the Red Devils were scoreless on four power plays.
Nathan Whittom had 27 saves in the Elora net while Mason Jacobs had 62 for the Red Devils.
Elora finishes first in the Western Conference at 17-3-0 while the Red Devils and Point Edward Pacers finish tied with 6-14-0 records. Point Edward won both games with Wallaceburg during the regular season to be awarded eighth place and the final playoff berth which comes with a conference quarter-final with the Mohawks.
Dramnitzke (104 points) and Harrison (101) finished one-two in the league scoring race. Dramnitzke had 38 goals and 66 assists while Harrison had 46 goals and 55 assists.
The conference quarter-finals are to start this week.
