More second-period woes for Shamrocks

CAMBRIDGE – The Hespeler Shamrocks yielded four goals in the second period as they were handed a 7-1 setback by the Woodstock Navy Vets in Provincial Junior Hockey League play Sunday at the Hespeler Memorial Arena.

Hespeler’s goal came on a power-play in the third minute of the third period.

The second period has been both the best and the worst period for the Shamrocks this season. They’ve scored more goals (22) in the second than any other period, but they’ve also allowed the most goals (42) in the second than any other period.

Braeden Tyler scored Hespeler’s goal Sunday while Tony Tikel and Gavin Logher had assists on the play.

Christian Pelley had a hat trick for Woodstock while Kyle Baker, Griffin Sinden, Braeden Nelson and Mack Easter also scored. Baker assisted on four of the goals while Sinden and Brady Collins each had two assists. Getting one assist apiece were Easter, Patrick Klazer, Sam Barry, Ben Feijo and Eric Tuori.

The Shamrocks were outshot 38-15 and went 1-for-2 on their power play. The Navy Vets were 1-for-9 on their power play.

Joseph Clark had 31 saves in net for Hespeler while Graeme Noye had 14 for Woodstock.

The Shamrocks have two games remaining on their schedule before a two-week break for Christmas. They’re to play the New Hamburg Firebirds at the Wilmot Recreation Complex Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and host the Burford Bulldogs Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at the Hespeler Memorial Arena.
