Mount Forest Patriots dumped in preseason opener
TAVISTOCK – The Mount Forest Patriots opened their Provincial Junior Hockey League preseason with a 10-2 loss to the Tavistock Braves Thursday night at the Tavistock arena.
Mount Forest opened the scoring in the game with the only goal of the first period. However, Tavistock responded with all six goals scored in the second before the Patriots scored again early in the third. The hosts scored four times after Mount Forest’s second goal.
Nathan Bolger and Mike Stefanelli scored the goals for Mount Forest while assists went to Brian Richardson, Luke Eurig, Sam Myles and Dean Sealey.
Zach Gladding and Tanner Johnson had two goals apiece for Tavistock while single goals were added by Ryan Donat, Matthew Deibolt, Izac Blum, Josh Helgerman, Ian Glendinning and Mitch McKay. Issac Westlake collected two assists while Zach Otto, Bryce Lee, Blum, Kyle Stock, Johnson, Donat, Connor Otto, Bradley Smith, Ben Wiffen and Andrew Van Boekel each had one.
Tavistock outshot the Patriots 42-28 and both teams went 1-for-4 on their power play.
Mason Tomeka and Connor Toogood played about half the game apiece in net for Mount Forest and each faced 21 shots. Tomeka allowed four goals, Toogood six.
Carter Roth played the first two periods in net for Tavistock and Sam Patton played the third. Each allowed a single goal. Roth faced 17 shots and Patton 11.
The teams are to meet again Aug. 30 at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex. The Patriots also have preseason games against the Stayner Siskins at home Sept. 4 at 8 p.m. and against the Wellesley Apple Jacks at Elmira Sept. 7 at 7:30 p.m.
