Mount Forest Patriots nip Tavistock in overtime
MOUNT FOREST – Ryley Cribbin’s goal in the first minute of overtime lifted the Mount Forest Patriots to a 4-3 victory over the Tavistock Braves in Provincial Junior Hockey League preseason play Friday night at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex.
The teams fought evenly throughout the game as they scored once each in the first period and twice apiece in the third.
The winning goal was Cribbin’s second of the game while Mike Stefanelli and Will Black also scored. Luke Eurig had two assists while Cribbin, Peyton McIsaac and Riley Torrie each had one.
Drew Gerth had two unassisted goals for Tavistock and Ryan Donat netted the other goal with help from Josh Helgerman and Mason McKay.
The Patriots outshot Tavistock 43-37 and both teams were shut out on their power plays, Mount Forest on six and Tavistock on two.
Connor Toogood and Aiden Quish shared the goaltending chores for the Patriots with Toogood allowing a goal on 17 shots in the first half of the game and Quish yielding two goals on 20 shots in the second half.
Carter Roth played the entire game for Tavistock and he gave up the four goals on 43 shots.
The game was the second of the preseason for the Patriots who were downed 10-2 by the Braves at Tavistock Aug. 22. The Braves also lost 5-3 to the Dorchester Dolphins Wednesday at Tavistock.
The Patriots have two games remaining on their preseason schedule as they’re to host the Stayner Siskins Wednesday at 8 p.m. and play the Wellesley Applejacks at Elmira Sept. 7 at 7:30 p.m.
