Mount Forest Patriots nipped by Mitchell Hawks

MOUNT FOREST – The Mount Forest Patriots surrendered a goal with less than five minutes to go in the third period as they were edged 3-2 by the Mitchell Hawks in PJHL play Friday night at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex.

The teams alternated scoring throughout the game. Mitchell had the lone goal of the first period while the Patriots and Hawks scored once each in the second period and once each in the third.

Dylan Szymanowski scored both goals for Mount Forest while Elijah Brahaney, Cameron Voisin, Jordan Leitch and Aaron McGuirk each had an assist.

Braeden Burdett, Nolan Gagnier and Tyson Hall scored for Mitchell Callum Ferguson had two assists and Caleb Musselman, Callum McMann and Burdett each had one.

Mitchell outshot Mount Forest 30-28 and the teams each had two power plays, the Hawks getting the only power-play goal of the game.

Vance Meyer had 27 saves for the Patriots and Joshua Jacklin had 26 for the Hawks.

Mount Forest leads the Pollock Division at 16-4-0-1 and is two points ahead of second-place Mitchell (14-4-1-2).

The Patriots are to host the sixth-place Walkerton Capitals (3-14-1-1) Saturday at 8:30 p.m.
