Mount Forest Patriots rally to edge Goderich Flyers

MOUNT FOREST – The Mount Forest Patriots had to come from behind to edge the Goderich Flyers 4-3 to avoid upsets on consecutive nights in PJHL play Saturday at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex.

Goderich, seventh in the seven-team Pollock Division, scored the first three goals of the game to lead the first-place Patriots midway through the match.

While Goderich led 2-0 at the end of the first period and led midway through the second period, a pair of goals 30 seconds apart was among three goals later in the period as the Patriots pulled even and then won with a power-play goal in the third.

Jordan Leitch and Caleb Cribbin had two consecutive goals apiece for Mount Forest while Elijah Brahaney and Brody Leblanc each had two assists and Bryan Richardson and Dylan Szymanowski each had one assist.

Iain MacIsaac, Riley Kuepfer and Ayden Hakkers had the goals for Goderich. Assists went to Owen Shore, Tyson Rintoul, Cameron McCarthy and Brett Harrogate.

The Patriots outshot the Flyers 46-32 and went 1-for-7 on the power play while Goderich was scoreless on four power plays. The teams combined for 64 minutes in penalties, 35 by Goderich.

Vance Meyer had 29 saves for the Patriots while Liam McCarthy had 42 for Goderich.

The result leaves the Patriots at 29-9-0-1 and Goderich at 5-30-1-0.

The Patriots are to play the fifth-place Kincardine Bulldogs (17-16-3-1) at Kincardine’s Davidson Centre next Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
