Mount Forest Patriots shut down Mitchell Hawks
MITCHELL – Mason Kameka stopped all 25 shots directed his way as he helped the Mount Forest Patriots shut out the Mitchell Hawks 9-0 in Provincial Junior Hockey League play Sunday at the Mitchell arena.
The Patriots connected for two goals in the first period, four in the second and three in the third. Their goals included a power-play marker and two scored while they were playing shorthanded.
Troy Weber, Dawson Bolger and Ryley Cribbin each scored twice for Mount Forest while single goals were added by Owen Rahn, Jack Birkett and Hayden Coulter. Birkett and Parker Miller each had two assists while single assists went to Chet Philips, William Black, Coulter, Colton Culbert, Michael Anselmini, Riley Torrie, Derek Williams and Bolger.
The Patriots outshot Mitchell 32-25 and went 1-for-3 on their power play while Mitchell was scoreless on five power plays.
Ryan Govier took the loss in net for Mitchell. He had 14 saves before being replaced by Kari Dingman who had nine saves in his stint of 15:24.
The shutout was the second of the season for Kameka and the game completed a 3-in-3 long weekend for The Patriots. They had two wins and a loss on the weekend.
The Patriots are second in the Pollock Division standings at 7-2-1-0. They trail the division-leading Wingham Ironmen (8-2-1-0) by two points, but have a game in hand. They also lead the third-place Hanover Barons (6-3-0-1) by two points and Mitchell is fourth at 5-3-0-1.
Mount Forest is to host the fifth-place Kincardine Bulldogs (5-4-0-0) Friday at 8:30 p.m. at the Mount Forest and District Community Centre.
