
Mount Forest Patriots upset by Walkerton
WALKERTON – The Mount Forest Patriots yielded two goals in each period as they were upset 6-3 by the Walkerton Capitals in PJHL play Friday night at the Walkerton Community Centre.
The Patriots had won each of the previous five matches with the Capitals this season and had won each of their previous 27 regular-season meetings with the Walkerton franchise. Previous victory over Mount Forest came Nov. 10, 2017 when Walkerton, then known as the Walkerton Hawks, defeated the Patriots 7-4 at Walkerton.

Friday, the teams were tied 2-2 at the end of the first period before the Capitals grabbed a 4-3 lead by the end of the second period.
The Capitals won despite having 15 players suited up for the game including a single goaltender. Mount Forest had 19 including two goalies.
Brody Leblanc, Dylan Szymanowski and Jordan Leitch each had a goal for the Patriots while Elijah Brahaney had two assists and Cameron Voisin, Austin Griffin, Caleb Cribbin and Leitch had one apiece.
Sam Shakes had two goals and two assists for Walkerton while Kyle Durrer, Owen Tichbourne, Ethan Kerr and Keegan Fischer scored once apiece. Trevor Fischer and Caleb Morrison each had two assists while Durrer, Elliott McCarey, Kerr and Aiden Mead each had one.
The Capitals outshot the Patriots 23-21 and were credited with two goals on the only two shots taken in the third.
Vance Meyer had 17 saves in net for the Patriots while Logan Bromley had 18 for Walkerton.
The Capitals also went 1-for-2 on their power play while the Patriots went 1-for-5.
Mount Forest leads the Pollock Division at 28-9-0-1 with four games to go in their regular season. They’re followed by the Hanover Barons at 23-9-2-2, Mitchell Hawks at 22-10-2-2, Wingham Ironmen at 22-13-2-1, Kincardine Bulldogs at 17-15-3-1, Walkerton at 6-27-1-1 and Goderich Flyers at 5-29-1-0.
The Patriots are to host Goderich at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex Saturday at 8 p.m.
