Mount Forest rallies to defeat Walkerton

MOUNT FOREST – The Mount Forest Patriots connected for three goals in the third period as they dropped the Walkerton Capitals 5-2 in PJHL play Saturday at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex.

Those three goals broke a 2-2 tie at the end of the second period. Walkerton scored first in the game, but Mount Forest led 2-1 at the end of the first period before the Capitals scored the lone goal of the second period.

Brody LeBlanc scored twice in the first two minutes of the third period to complete a hat trick. Bryan Richardson and Dylan Szymanowski added single goals while Szymanowski also had two assists. Getting one assist each were Charlie Mckenzie, Caleb Cribbin, Austin Griffin, Jordan Leitch, LaBlanc and Adam Murray.

Sam Shakes and Kyle Durer had the goals for Walkerton while Graham Gateman, J.J. Lavigne, Owen Tichbourne and Eliott McCarey each had an assist.

The teams had 35 shots apiece while Mount Forest went 2-for-6 on the power play and Walkerton went 1-for-12.

Tristan Szymanowski had 33 saves in the Mount Forest net while Logan Bromley had 30 for Walkerton.

The Patriots lead the Pollock Division at 17-4-0-1 and Walkerton is sixth at 3-15-1-1.

The Patriots have a pair of games on their schedule next week as they are to host the third-place Wingham Ironmen (14-6-2-1) Saturday at 8 p.m. and play the seventh-place Goderich Flyers (2-20-0-0) at Goderich Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
