Mount Forest topped by Wingham again

MOUNT FOREST – The Mount Forest Patriots suffered their second consecutive loss to the Wingham Ironmen as they were doubled 4-2 in PJHL play Saturday night at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex.

Wingham had also won 5-1 at Wingham Wednesday.

Saturday, Wingham scored three times in the second period for the win over the short-staffed Patriots who had 17 players suited up for the game including both goalies. Wingham had 20 players in uniform.

The Ironmen scored the lone goal of the first period and extended their lead to 4-1 by the end of the second.

Austin Griffin scored both goals for Mount Forest while Kyle Detweiler and Caleb Cribbin each had an assist.

Nate Bloemberg, Noah Wettlaufer, Jonah Burley and Patrick Galloway connected for a goal apiece for Wingham. Burley also had two assists while single assists were awarded to Noah Bloemberg, Tayt Bramhill, Kyle Stanbury, Matt Tolton and Galloway.

The Ironmen outshot the Patriots 32-30 and went 1-for-2 on their power play while Mount Forest went 1-for-7.

Tristan Szymanowski had 28 saves for Mount Forest while Garrett Golley had the same amount for Wingham.

The Patriots lead the Pollock Division at 25-8-0-1 while the Ironmen, winners of five in a row, are fourth at 21-11-2-1.

The Patriots are to host the Mitchell Hawks (third at 21-10-2-2) Sunday afternoon in their second of four consecutive home games.
