Nico Daws records shutout as Storm blanks Owen Sound
GUELPH – Nico Daws stopped all 28 shots directed his way as the Guelph Storm blanked the Owen Sound Attack 4-0 in Ontario Hockey League play Friday night at the Sleeman Centre.
All four of the Storm’s goals came in the second period with three of them being scored in the first three and a half minutes of the period.
Eric Uba, Andrei Bakanov, Ben McFarlane and Keegan Stevenson hit for a goal apiece for the locals. Cam Hillis assisted on two of the goals while Matthew Papais, Jacob Roach and Fedor Gordeev each had one assist.
The Storm were outshot 28-21 and both teams were 0-for-2 on their power plays.
The shutout was the second for Daws in his time with the Storm. He stopped 29 shots in a 9-0 victory over the Kingston Frontenacs last season.
The game was the second of the regular season for the Storm who lost their opener 3-2 in a shootout to the Ottawa 67’s a week earlier.
Owen Sound falls to 1-1-0-1.
The Storm and Attack are to play again Saturday at Owen Sound’s Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
