North Bay’s scoring spree does in Guelph Storm

GUELPH – The North Bay Battalion struck for four consecutive goals to slip by the Guelph Storm 4-3 in OHL play Sunday at the Sleeman Centre.

The Storm had led 2-0 at the end of the first period, but North Bay tied it 2-2 by the end of the second and shot ahead with two goals in the first three and a half minutes of the third.

The Storm cut the gap to the final one-goal margin about nine minutes into the third.

Jake Karabela, Charlie Paquette and Cedricson Okitundu had a goal apiece for the locals while assists went to Jett Luchanko, Matthew Poitras, Michael Buchinger and Cooper Walker.

Scoring for North Bay were Dalyn Wakely, Ty Nelson, Kyle McDonald and Paul Christopoulos. Owen Van Steensel had two assists while Avery Winslow, Anthony Romani, Matvey Petrov, Wakely and Liam Arnsby each had one.

The Battalion outshot the Storm 38-16 including a 28-7 advantage in the final two periods. Both teams had a power-play goal, North Bay on four power plays and Guelph on two.

Dixon Grimes had 34 saves in the Storm net while Charlie Robertson had 13 for North Bay. Robertson also stopped penalty shots by Walker and Karabela during the game.

The Storm, who had 17 players suited up for the loss in Owen Sound Saturday night due to a flu bug going through the squad, had 19 dressed for Sunday’s game.

Guelph is 10th in the 10-team Western Conference at 2-9-2-0 while North Bay is fifth in the Eastern Conference at 7-4-0-0.

The Storm are to start a stretch of five consecutive road games Wednesday when they’re to play the Sarnia Sting (7-4-1-0) at the Progressive Auto Sales Arena. Game time is 7:05 p.m.

The other games in the stretch are against the Soo Greyhounds (3-5-3-1) Friday at 7:07 p.m., Flint Firebirds (7-6-0-0) Saturday at 7 p.m., North Bay Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. and Sudbury Wolves (3-7-1-0) Nov. 11 at 7:05 p.m.

Next home game for the Storm is to be Nov. 13 against Sarnia. Game time at the Sleeman Centre is 4 p.m.
