Norwell gets berth in senior volleyball final with forfeit win

PALMERSTON – The Norwell Varsity Reds earned a berth in Thursday’s District 4 high schools senior boys’ volleyball final without getting a point on the court Tuesday.

Norwell was awarded a 3-0 semifinal victory over the Wellington Heights Wolverines when Wellington Heights forfeited.

Norwell finished first at the end of the regular season with a 10-0 record while Wellington Heights was fourth in the six-team league at 5-5.

The Varsity Reds will host Thursday’s final against the winner of Wednesday’s semifinal between the second-place Emmanuel Christian Eagles (7-3) and third-place Westside Thunder (5-5). The final is expected to be at 2:30 p.m.



Norwell will also host the junior final Thursday after the Varsity Reds won their semifinal 3-1 over the Centre Dufferin Royals.

The Varsity Reds won 25-18, 19-25, 25-16, 25-12.

Norwell will host the Westside Thunder in the final after the Thunder won their semifinal Tuesday by a 3-1 count over the Wellington Heights Wolverines.

Westside won 20-25, 25-16, 25-17, 25-21.

Norwell had finished atop the junior standings at 9-1 while Westside was second at 7-3. Wellington Heights was third and Centre Dufferin fourth, both with 6-4 records.

Thursday’s junior final is to start at 2:30 p.m.
