Norwell seniors, Westside juniors claim D4 soccer titles

FERGUS – The Norwell Varsity Reds became the fourth team in four years to win the District 4 high school senior boys soccer title Monday when they blanked the defending champion Emmanuel Christian Eagles 3-0 at Victoria Park in Fergus.

Norwell received goals from Assane Arouna, Brandon Feltz and Parker Miller.

While Emmanuel Christian won the title last year, the Westside Thunder won it in 2016 and the Erin Raiders won it in 2015.

All teams in the league have won it at least once in the last eight years as the Wellington Heights Wolverines won it in 2013 and the Centre Dufferin Royals won it in 2010.

This year’s win was Norwell’s first since 2014.

The Westside Thunder claimed the D4 junior boys soccer title with a 3-2 win over the Norwell Varsity Reds Monday at Westside.

Tyler Bradbury, Isaac Dray and Ryan Lake scored the goals for Westside.

Quinton Carere scored for Norwell.

The title win is Westside’s first since 2015.

Westside advances to the CWOSSA junior championship tournament set for Thursday and Friday at the Gryphon Soccer Complex.

Other teams qualified for the CWOSSA tournament are the D10 champion Orangeville Bears, Resurrection Phoenix, St. Mary’s Eagles and Cameron Heights Gaels of Kitchener and Waterloo CI Vikings.
