OMHA U15 AA title for Junior Gryphons

KINGSTON – The Guelph Junior Gryphons struck for a pair of goals eight seconds apart in the final five minutes of the third period to slip by the Newmarket Renegades 3-1 in the Ontario Minor Hockey Association U15 AA championship final.

The teams had been tied 1-1 at the end of the first period, the locals scoring with 26 seconds remaining in the period for the knot.

The second period was scoreless and the Junior Gryphs had their winning pair of goals in the third.

Individual stats were not reported.

The Junior Gryphs earned their spot in the final with a 6-3 victory over the Barrie Junior Colts in the semifinals. The locals led 3-0 at the end of the first period and 4-2 after the second.

Guelph had two wins and a loss in preliminary play to finish first in its group. The Junior Gryphs defeated the Belleville Junior Bulls 3-1, lost 3-2 to Newmarket and downed the Lasalle Sabres 4-1.
