Orangeville rugby girls top Erin to stay unbeaten

GUELPH – The Orangeville Bears grabbed sole possession of first place in the District 4/10 high school girls’ rugby league Thursday with a 48-7 victory over the Erin Raiders at the University of Guelph’s Varsity Field.

The win was the third in three games for the Bears while Erin fell to 2-1-0.

The defending champion Ross Royals, who were idle Thursday, are also undefeated as they won both of their Monday matches, one by default.

Jessica Anderson and Leah Inglis each had two tries for Orangeville while Rebecca Hodder, Megan Rook, Miranda Scianitti and Emilie Stevens had one apiece. Sydney Trewartha added four converts.

Jordyn Mooy scored the try for the Raiders while Riley Miller kicked the convert.


Centre Wellington 34 Wellington Heights 0

The Falcons scored six tries in the match.

Centre Wellington improved to 2-1-0 while Wellington Heights dropped to 0-3-0.


Bishop Macdonell 40 Westside 5

Bishop Mac hit for seven tries while Westside’s try in the dying seconds of the game was their first in just under two years. Their last try was on May 9, 2016 in a playoff loss.

Scorers were not reported.

The win allowed the Celtics to square their record at 1-1-1 while Westside fell to 0-3-0.
