Orangeville sweeps D10 senior volleyball make-up matches

GUELPH – The Orangeville Bears swept a pair of rescheduled matches Friday to wrap up the District 10 high school senior girls’ volleyball league’s regular season.

The Bears defeated the Centennial Spartans 2-0 in a match played during Centennial’s senior tournament. The Bears won both sets 25-21.

Orangeville also handed the Guelph CVI Green Gaels their first loss in D10 play this season as the Bears prevailed 3-2. Orangeville won 26-14, 18-25, 24-26, 25-21, 15-11.

The cancellation of games Thursday due to the freezing rain that kept school buses from running meant teams finished the regular season one or two matches less than originally intended.

The quarter-finals are set for Monday and feature eighth-place Lourdes Crusaders (1-12) playing first-place GCVI (12-1) at GCVI at 3:45 p.m., seventh-place Centre Wellington Falcons playing second-place Ross (9-3) at Ross at 4 p.m., sixth-place Centennial (6-7) playing third-place Orangeville (9-4) at Orangeville at 3:45 p.m. and fifth-place Bishop Macdonell Celtics playing fourth-place St. James Lions at St. James at 3:45 p.m.

Orangeville Bears dropped a pair of 2-0 matches Friday as they were downed by the Centennial Spartans and Guelph CVI Green Gaels.

Centennial won 25-10, 25-22 and GCVI won 25-20, 13-25.
