OSL Provincial West Gryphons nip Burlington Titans

BURLINGTON – The Guelph Gryphons got back in the win column Monday night as they edged the Burlington Titans 2-1 in Ontario Soccer League Provincial West play at Burlington’s City View Park.

The win was Guelph’s fourth in five games and followed a loss to Lakeshore United.

Angelo Luzi and Jurgen Koehler scored for the Gryphons.

Eder Boquin tallied for Burlington.

The Gryphons climb to fifth in the 10-team league with a 7-8-2 record. They can finish as high as third, but all teams in the league except first-place Caledon FC have games in hand on the Gryphons.

The Guelph side is two points behind both Lakeshore United (8-5-1) and Ebony Juniors (8-7-1) and one ahead of both Club Italia Juventus (7-6-1) and Mississauga Portofino (7-7-1). HNNK Zagreb (5-8-2) is eighth and Wisla United (3-8-2) is ninth.

Wisla United has four games in hand on the Gryphons while Lakeshore United and Club Italia Juventus have three apiece, Mississauga Portofino and HNNK Jagreb have two each and Ebony Juniors have one.

The Gryphons are to complete their season with a match against HNNK Zagreb Sept. 27 at Centennial Bowl. Game time is 8:45 p.m.
