Owen Sound knocks Storm from second in division
OWEN SOUND – The Guelph Storm was held scoreless after the 10-minute mark of the first period as the Owen Sound Attack rallied for a 3-2 victory in Ontario Hockey play Tuesday night at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre.
The result broke the tie for second place in the Midwest Division as it left Owen Sound at 17-11-1-2, two points ahead of the Storm (14-9-3-4).
Nate Schnarr and Liam Hawel scored to stake the Storm to a 2-0 lead before the game was 10 minutes old.
Owen Sound’s Kevin Hancock cut the gap to a single goal late in the second period and Sean Durzi tied it early in the third. Kaleb Pearson connected for the game-winner for the hosts with 8:20 to go in regulation time.
Hawel, Keegan Stevenson, Schnarr and Ryan Merkley had assists for the Storm.
Getting assists for Owen Sound were Pearson, Carter Robertson, Daylon Groulx and Manuel Alberg.
The Storm outshot the Attack 46-39 and went 1-for-4 on their power play while Owen Sound was scoreless on four power plays.
Anthony Popovich was charged with the loss in net for the Storm while Andrew MacLean picked up the win for Owen Sound.
The loss was the third in a row for the Storm and their fourth in five games. They have a 3-in-3 this weekend to wrap up their pre-Christmas schedule as they’re to host the Peterborough Petes (17-13-0-0) Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the Sleeman Centre and the Mississauga Steelheads (15-13-2-0) Saturday at 2 p.m. and complete the weekend with a game against the Oshawa Generals (19-10-2-0) at Oshawa’s Tribute Communities Centre Sunday at 6:05 p.m.
