Patriots and Mitchell Hawks skate to a deadlock

MITCHELL – The Mount Forest Patriots battled the Mitchell Hawks to a 3-3 standoff in PJHL Sunday at the Mitchell Arena, the tie being the first blemish on Mount Forest’s record this season.

The teams were tied 3-3 at the end of regulation time and a seven-minute overtime period failed to break the stalemate.

The Patriots never led in the game and never trailed by more than a goal.

After a scoreless first period, the teams were tied 2-2 at the end of the second. Mitchell scored in the fifth minute of the third, but Mount Forest pulled even 8:20 later.

Caleb Cribbin, Austin Griffin and Ben Tenhag had a goal apiece for the Patriots while Dylan Szymanowski had two assists and Elijah Brahaney, Cribbin, Bryan Richardson and Aaron McGuirk had one each.

Mark Cassidy fired in a pair of goals for Mitchell while Braeden Burdett had a goal and an assist. Also getting one assist each were Aiden McMann, Jonathan Tenhag, Jarod LeSouder, Zachary McCann and Andrew Gysbers.

Mount Forest outshot Mitchell 43-33 and both teams netted a power-play goal. The Patriots had five power plays and the Hawks had six.

Tristan Szymanowski had 30 saves in net for Mount Forest while Joshua Jacklin had 40 for Mitchell.

Mount Forest lead the Pollock Division at 11-0-0-1 while Mitchell is second at 8-2-1-1.

The Patriots are to play the Walkerton Capitals (2-7-0-1) at the Walkerton Community Centre Friday at 7:30 p.m. before starting a four-game homestand at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex Saturday at 8 p.m. with a game against the Goderich Flyers (1-11-0-0).
