Patriots back on top in conference final

MOUNT FOREST – Jacob Miller of the Mount Forest Patriots scored the final two goals of the game to lift the Patriots to a 5-3 victory over the Alliston Hornets in the third game of the Provincial Junior Hockey League’s North Conference final.

The win gives the Patriots a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven conference final.

Mount Forest led 2-1 at the end of the first period after scoring a pair of goals 55 seconds apart in the first four minutes of the game. The hosts were up 4-3 at the end of the second thanks to a power-play goal with 45 seconds to go in the period. They completed the scoring with the only goal of the third, an empty-netter with 64 seconds to go.

Miller finished with a hat trick for the Patriots while Thomas Haffner and Ryley Cribbin added single goals. Cribbin also had two assists while Klayton Hoelscher, Nathan Bolger, Haffner and Dylan Brown had one apiece.

Ryan Sallows, Joey Visconti and Ryan McReynolds tallied for Alliston. Assists were awarded to Mitch Livingston, McReynolds, Caden Maher and Sallows.

The Patriots were outshot 34-33 and both teams went 1-for-5 on their power plays.

Aidan Quish had 31 saves to get the win in the Mount Forest net while Tyler Ryan had 28 saves for Alliston.

Fourth game of the series is set for Monday at 7:30 p.m. at Alliston’s New Tecumseh Recreation Complex.

Game 5 is to go Thursday at 8 p.m. at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex.
