Patriots blanked by Kincardine to start busy weekend
KINCARDINE – The Mount Forest Patriots opened their three-in-three weekend with a 3-0 loss to the Kincardine Bulldogs in Provincial Junior Hockey League play Friday night at Kincardine’s Davidson Centre.
The Bulldogs scored twice in the first period and once in the second for the win.
Sean Andrus and Jamie Brock combined efforts for the shutout in the Kincardine net. Andrus had 26 saves in just over 58 minutes of play while Brock had one save in just under two minutes of play.
Kincardine outshot the Patriots 33-27 and Mount Forest was scoreless on two power plays while Kincardine didn’t have a power play in the game.
Gleb Poliakov had 30 saves in the Mount Forest net.
The Patriots (31-7-1-1) have clinched a first-place finish in the Pollock Division standings and that will give them a bye in the division’s quarter-finals.
Kincardine is in a three-way tie for third. They’re at 23-15-0-3 with one game to go while the Hanover Barons are at 23-16-1-2 and have completed their regular season and the Mitchell Hawks are at 21-12-2-5 and have two games to go.
The Patriots have a pair of games against Mitchell left on their schedule. They’re to play Saturday at 8 p.m. at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex and Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Mitchell arena.
