Patriots clouted by Hanover to start busy weekend
HANOVER – The Hanover Barons struck for the first six goals of the game as they dropped the Mount Forest Patriots 7-2 Friday night in Provincial Junior Hockey League play at the P and H Centre.
The Barons scored three times in each of the first two periods before the Patriots netted their two goals in the third to stop Hanover’s scoring streak. The Barons did add the final goal of the game.
Parker Miller and Michael Anselmini scored the goals for the Patriots while assists went to Colton Culbert, Liam Magill, Dawson Bolger and Owen Rahn.
Zack Cameron tallied twice for Hanover while single goals were netted by Noah Johnson, Tyler Hooker, Alex Paylor, Luke Hoelscher and Quinton Maddock. Hoelscher set up three of the goals while Ryan Goetz, Johnson and Quinton Maddock each had two assists. Getting one assist apiece were Spencer Maddock, Derek Cornfield, Hooker, Kyle Detweiler and Brock Phillips.
Hanover outshot the Patriots 49-42 and went 3-for-5 on its power play while Mount Forest was 1-for-4.
Aidan Quish was tagged with the loss in the Mount Forest net. He had 42 saves while winning goaltender Brendon Landry had 40 for Hanover.
The result creates a three-way tie for second in the Pollock Division standings between the Patriots (5-2-1-0), Hanover (5-3-0-1) and Mitchell Hawks (5-2-0-1). Wingham Ironmen lead at 8-1-1-0.
The game was also the first of three in three days on the Thanksgiving weekend for the Patriots. They’re to host Wingham Saturday at 8 p.m. at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex and play the Mitchell Hawks at the Mitchell arena Sunday at 3 p.m.
