Patriots come back to double Goderich

MOUNT FOREST – The Mount Forest Patriots scored the final five goals of the game including two in the final 30 seconds to rally for a 6-3 victory over the Goderich Flyers in Provincial Junior Hockey League play at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex Sunday.

Goderich scored a pair of power-play goals to lead 2-0 at the end of the first period and the Flyers were ahead 3-2 at the end of the second, Mount Forest starting its comeback with a goal with 35 seconds to go in the second.

Klayton Hoelscher and Jack Birkett each had two goals and two assists for the Patriots while Parker Miller and Michael Anselmini added the other goals. Getting one assist apiece were Riley Torrie, Miller, Dylan Brown and Jack Francis.

Cody Treble, Jeff Fritzley and Trent Michie scored for Goderich while

Chase Meurs had two assists and Griffin MacDonald, Treble and Brad Watson had one apiece.

Goderich outshot the Patriots 42-32 and went 2-for-4 on its power play while Mount Forest was scoreless on its lone power play.

Aidan Quish had 39 saves for the win in the Mount Forest net while Kyle Dunlop made 26 saves for Goderich.

The Patriots are third in the Pollock Division standings at 7-2-1-0 while Goderich is seventh at 1-8-0-2. Wingham Ironmen lead at 9-1-0-0 and Kincardine Bulldogs are second at 8-2-1-0.

Sunday’s game was the first of three consecutive home games for the Patriots. They’re to host Kincardine Saturday at 8 p.m. and the Huntsville Otters (5-5-0-1) Sunday at 2 p.m.
