Patriots complete regular season by doubling Mitchell

MITCHELL – The Mount Forest Patriots scored the first two goals of the game as they wrapped up their Provincial Junior Hockey League regular season with a 4-2 victory over the Mitchell Hawks Sunday at the Mitchell arena.

Mount Forest led 2-1 at the end of the first period before scoring the lone goal of the second.

Jack Birkett struck for a hat trick for the Patriots while Nathan Bolger scored the other goal. Hayden Coulter assisted on two of the goals while Sam Myles, Colton Culbert, Blair Jenkins and Derek Williams each had one assist.

Josh Gottfried scored both goals for Mitchell while Carter Lewis assisted on both. Spencer Dowd and Ethan Hill each had one assist.

Mitchell outshot Mount Forest 32-30 and both teams went 0-for-4 on their power plays.

The Patriots had 14 players suited up for the game including two goaltenders.

Aidan Quish had 30 saves to get the win for Mount Forest while Seth Monkhouse had 26 saves for Mitchell.

The Patriots finish atop the Pollock Division at 33-7-1-1 while Mitchell (21-14-2-5) tied for fourth with the Hanover Barons (23-16-1-2).

Mount Forest gets a bye in the divisional quarter-finals while Mitchell and Hanover will meet in one of the series.
