Patriots connect to clip Goderich Flyers

MOUNT FOREST – The Mount Forest Patriots scored at least two goals in each period as they dropped the Goderich Flyers 7-4 in Provincial Junior Hockey League play Friday night at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex.

The Patriots needed their two second-period goals to shoot ahead for the first time. The teams had been tied 2-2 at the end of the opening period before the Patriots grabbed a 4-2 lead by the end of the second.

The Patriots’ power play had a hand in the victory as the hosts went 4-for-9 with a manpower advantage while Goderich went 1-for-5.

Bryan Richardson had two goals and two assists for the Patriots while Austin Griffin also scored twice. Getting one goal apiece were Elijah Brahaney, Dylan Szymanowski and Jordan Leitch. Matthew Weiler and Szymanowski each had two assists while Jared Rowe, Reid Caswell, Leighton Hurst, Aidan Doig, Brahaney and Leitch each had one.

Ayden Hakkers tallied twice for Goderich while Jeff Fritzley and Riley Kuepfer also scored. Jack Stecho collected two assists while Wilder Hoggarth, Carson Stutzman, Fritzley, Brett Harrogate, Owen Shore and Iain MacIsaac had one apiece.

Mount Forest outshot Goderich 55-31. Vance Meyer had 27 saves for the Patriots while Liam McCarthy had 48 for the Flyers.

Mount Forest leads the Pollock Division at 27-8-0-1 while Goderich is seventh at 4-29-1-0.

The Patriots are to complete their four-game homestand Saturday with a match against the fifth-place Kincardine Bulldogs (17-13-3-1). Game time is 8 p.m.
