Patriots connect to double Mitchell Hawks

MOUNT FOREST – Single goals in the first and second periods proved to be the difference as the Mount Forest Patriots doubled the Mitchell Hawks 4-2 in Provincial Junior Hockey League play Saturday night at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex.

The Patriots led 1-0 at the end of the first period and 2-0 after the second before stretching their lead to 4-0 with 7:42 to play. However, Mitchell scored 16 seconds after Mount Forest’s fourth goal and then cut the gap to two 2:44 later with the game’s final goal.

Troy Weber led the Patriots with a pair of goals while Thomas Haffner and Dawson Bolger also scored. Bolger had two assists while Dylan Brown, goaltender David Lobsinger, Haffner, Luke Hoelscher, Riley Torrie and Liam Burke had one apiece.

Tyson Hall and Brandon Williams scored for Mitchell while Ethan Hill and Riley Keupfer each had an assist.

Mount Forest outshot Mitchell 35-33 and both teams were scoreless on their power plays, Mount Forest on three and Mitchell on four.

Lobsinger made 31 saves to get the win for the Patriots while Zach Weber also had 31 saves in a losing cause for Mitchell.

The win leaves the Patriots at 4-1-0-0 while the loss drops Mitchell to 2-3-1-0.

The Patriots are to play the Schomberg Cougars (1-3-0-1) at Schomberg’s Trisan Centre Saturday at 5 p.m.
