Patriots dumped by Alliston, trail North final 3-0

ALLISTON – The Mount Forest Patriots are facing being swept from the Provincial Junior Hockey League’s playoffs for the second time this season after they were dropped 8-1 by the Alliston Hornets Sunday night at the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre.

The win gives Alliston a 3-0 lead in the best-of-seven North Conference final.

The Patriots dropped the first three games of their Pollock Division semifinal to the Mitchell Hawks before winning four in a row to advance to the division final.

Sunday, the Patriots hit for the first goal of the game when Blair Butchart scored at the 12:17 mark of the first period. Spencer Holt and Ryley Cribbin assisted on the play.

The scoring was all Alliston after that, starting with a pair of power-play goals by former Guelph Hurricane Mackenzie Flewelling in the final three minutes of the first period.

Alliston led 2-1 after the first and 4-1 after the second.

Devon Gillham and Ryan McReynolds also scored twice apiece for the Hornets while single goals were added by Drake Board and Ryan Sallows.
